Need a bit of help...

Postby Christine on Fri Feb 08, 2008 9:17 pm

I know I posted before, but I'm really struggling with my Lovie. He's a great little guy...extremely friendly and affectionate. I've had other birds, and he is by far the most friendly. However, he wants to be with me ALL the time. I have him clipped because I have vaulted ceilings and it would be dangerous to have him flying, but I'm afraid it's as harmful to have him clipped. Every time I put him on his cage or playpen, he'll jump off or fly off of something to get to me. Any ideas about what I should do?
Thanks,
Christine and Sawyer

Hi Christine,
There are a lot of lovebird owners who wish their lovebirds wanted to be with them as much as yours wants to be with you! As a single lovebird, he has selected you as his mate and he, therefore, wants your company all the time just as he would have if his mate wore feathers!

How old is your lovebird? Sometimes as they get older, they can become more independent and are more willing to explore their world, especially if the lovie happens to be a hen (always looking around for that ideal spot to nest....).

I had a Cockatiel that wanted nothing but to be with me 24/7 and I remember finding it a pain in the butt at times, as I felt like I always had an extra appendage. However, when she died, I realized just how much I had gotten used to her being with me all the time and the empty place where she used to be echoed with the silence of her absence.
