I need help

Postby d4shee on Fri Jan 18, 2008 12:03 pm

Can I remove my love bird eggs as they lay them and replace them after they lay out a clucth so they all will hatch at the same time?? If so do I keep them in the frig. or at room temp. Thanks David Forshee Point Pleasant,Wv.

I'm just curious, why do you want them to hatch at the same time? I have never heard of doing this. I have never had a problem with my pairs laying and hatching babies at different times.

Yes, you can remove all the eggs one at a time and return them when the complete clutch has been finished. Keep them in a safe place at room temperature.

However, for each egg you remove, you will need to replace it (temporarily) with a fake egg, a white marble or a white stone so that momma lovebird has something to sit on. Removing what's she's worked so hard to produce and leaving her with an empty nest could frustrate her and she may abandon her nest.

All the fertile eggs should hatch within a 24 hr period but keep in mind that this will be very hard on the parents. When the fertile eggs hatch every other day, it gives momma lovebird a chance to acclimate to having one, then two, then three babies, etc.

This can be done but I don't recommend doing it unless you have a very, very good reason to do so.
