Converting to pellets?

Postby hannahlauren on Wed Jan 09, 2008 3:54 pm

I know this sounds like a novice bird question but should I convert my lovebirds from seeds to pellets? I am only experianced with conures and seed is too fatty and not good for them. However from what I read about Lovebird diets is that seed should be the staple in their diet. Is this true? Obviously I understand ALL birds should have fresh veggies and fruit. But in terms of pellets and seed what is the consensus? Please advise. BTW- I've only had my Lovebirds for 3 weeks (they are 5-6 mo's old) and they were on an all seed diet when I got them.

My avian vet advises no more than 40% of the diet should be pellets. The remaining 60% should be seed and fresh foods.
