Pip gets a new cage!

Postby mytielwoody on Wed Aug 22, 2007 12:25 pm

The cage Pip came with from his previous owner was kinda on the small side, and Pip is one that does not like living in a cage----the more time out, the happier he is-----so I decided for the times we work and times that could come up when he has to stay in cage----that it might be best to get him a bigger one. I found a really nice cage for sale on craigslist.com, it was about an hour away, but the cage looked nice in the pic and was really big and she only wanted 50 dollars for it! Well I got the cage! the bar spacing is really close to together too, so it's perfect for him! but I am thinking he might get lost in there, it's kinda big. 33inches across, 23 inches deep and 37 inches from top to bottom, and it has a nice stand----heavy duty cage and it's a flight cage. Anyone think this might be too big for for one little lovie to live in?? I am cleaning it tomorrow and getting more toys and perches over the weekend and sunday he will have his new home! It's his for the winter at least until I decide if I want to re-sell it and get him one a bit smaller----but I guess I'll see how he likes it first.

As long as the bar spacing is not wider than 5/8", my take on cages is the larger, the better! Most of my larger parrots are out of their cages long enough where it doesn't matter that their cages are not huge but if they spent time in the cages, I would get sizes that they could get lost in!

Not sure exactly the measurement of the bar spacing, but it's close together enough, that I am sure! It's closer together than my tiel's cage and theirs is 5/8's I can't wait to get it cleaned up-----I haven't had time and my day off I wasn't feeling too good, so I ended up taking a nap instead lol but I am off tomorrow and I am cleaning it and I have already bought some new perches and toys. The cage is in awesome shape, looks like new. Whatever bird was in it before couldn't have been it in long! It's just a bit dusty/dirty like it has been sitting for a little while somewhere. I can't wait to get it cleaned up and all ready, and see how Pip likes it! This is what's nice about a lovie-----to him, everything new is like a new adventure----keeps him occupied, something new to check out and explore! unlike with tiels who tend to not like changes much, and might need adjusting to a new cage. With Pip, new things seem exciting to him----something new to check out and new toys??? wow, he really gets excited about toys! I think he'll be pretty happy about the new cage!I hope he likes it!

Ok, I spent hours outside today cleaning up the cage----it was pretty dirty----when you're cleaning out in the daylight sun you can see every little spot! So I cleaned it all up great, let it dry off and put new perches in it and then we brought it in the house-----geez it was huge, seems so much bigger in the house! We put Pip in it and he seemed lost at first and kept looking at his smaller cage like he wanted to go back. Honestly I think there is something cozy about his cage that he likes and this bigger one just is too big! takes up too much space too in the living room and I still have to make room for one more cage come spring when I get my Pi. So anyway, I decided to sell the cage and take the money to buy Pip a cage bigger than his, but not quite as big as this new one we got! I am thinking a cage the size of my tiels would be great and theirs is 20x20x26 I think. I posted the cage on craigslist for sale-----here is a pic after I cleaned it all up and brought it in the house........Pip is in, look at how small he looks! lol

It looks like a really nice cage, lots of room for new and exciting toys and swings.

IMO I won't be too fast to sell it. But that could be because I am a pack rat :)

Yeah, you know it is a pretty nice cage, and we have a good size living room and could probably fit it in here nicely if we re-arranged things a bit------the thing is I already listed it for sale on craigslist----I deleted it, but not before someone emailed me interested in it. Now I feel like I have to go ahead and sell it to her. It's all ok though because I can take the money I get for the cage and buy one similar to this one only just a bit smaller, plus I don't like that this cage has two doors on it----I like the one door better because then I can put the ladder to the playgym in it.
