Feeding

Postby FauxSecrets on Sun Jul 08, 2007 10:56 am

I heard from their breeder that broccoli is safe to give to my lovebirds. Is this true? If so, is there any special way I should prepare it?

Thanks!
Megan

Broccoli you may want to slightly steam, then either clamp to the side of the wall or cut up into strips or tiny pieces.

Broccoli is definitely safe to feed to your lovebirds. I usually clean mine well and cut into small pieces. Broccoli is a good source of calcium and I tend to use a lot of it, in addition to fresh carrots.

Yes, they are safe for birds to eat. Again, because their mouths are dry, Jalapeno peppers taste different to birds.

I noticed sweetened corn and sweetened oat cereals on the list. I'd stay away from anything with added sugars as it's very hard for the birds to digest and heavily sweetened things can be very dangerous to them.

I noticed Lima Beans on the OK list, but I have read that they are not good for them if they are raw, so make sure they are cooked, unless I read wrong...
