All the Pretty Colors...

Postby mj702002 on Tue Apr 24, 2007 3:24 am

I have a beautiful little, believe to be, blue series Australian Cinnamon female that I would love to find a mate for (she is about 1 1/2 yr old). I haven't been successful in finding a site on the web that gets into the color mutations (in plain understandable english). I would like to have the best chance of her offspring having her color. Any recommendations for a mate or website for info?
Thanks
MJ

I don't have the link handy, but try the genetics calculator on the African Lovebird Society web site. I think they've got australian cinnamon plugged into it. I used to breed these but I"m no help to you now. All I've got now are retired pet hens.

Since it is sex-linked, I would reccomend finding a blue male that is split to Australian Cinnamon. I have a Australian Cinnamon Hen and a Green Pied Split ino and Australian Cinnamon Cock. They produce babies (sometimes) that look a little like the mom, but just a few colors off. I have used the genetics calculator but have come out a little more confused. I'm actually starting to believe my hen is Blue American Cinnamon but She has all the makings of Australian....I hope you get what you are looking for, try reading the book, "The Colored Atlas of Lovebirds." After you read that, everything else will be easy to read!
