Help! Sick canary

Help! My Canary is sick...my fault. I have been pickling onions for a few hours and the fumes have made him ill. His symptoms are shaking, fluffed up, closed eyes, strong heart beat. He is getting better, as I have removed him from the room, given him fresh air, then later made him warm in his cage. However his eyes are still sore.
Any advice?
