Perhaps it's because he's molting and in a new place that he is yet to be comfortable in that he has yet to sing? So long as his eyes are bright, not droopy, his droppings fine, he's getting a good amount of sleep (hopefully going to sleep with the sun and waking with the sun, so 9-15 hours of sleep depending on the time of year?).

I don't personally have any canary experience, so hopefully someone who has experience with singers will come along and share their experiences and knowledge!

I empathize with you, Donna. I got an american singer about three weeks ago and he hasn't started to sing either. My is not molting but he only peeps once in a while. This is my first time with a canary. I have Gouldians, Zebras and shafttails, in addition to my Parakeet, Lovebird, and Pionus Parrot. Maybe we (you & I) just have to be patient until the little guys decide to sing.

I have an other question too. Is it ok to put the canary in the same flight cage as my female Parakeet? She lost her mate last week and seems very lonely. My finch cage is too full because I have 4 new babies I'm waiting to be weaned so I can sell them.

Anybody out there who knows canaries that can help Donna and me???? :? :?

Female parakeets (budgies) can be very aggressive and have killed MANY cagemates. Please be most cautious!

I'm glad Zjohn Claude is now singing. My "Elvis" is finally singing now also. I put him in a flight cage alone but next to my other finches. This must have help some 'cause now I hear his sweet song mixed in with the other finch noises.
