Tui was not lost because the wings was not clipped.
Tui was lost because Andrew allowed himself to be badly misguided.

Read more of how that came about here

With all due respect, free flying a bird outside is best left to the professionals. Allowing your bird to fly inside is encouraged as long as it is safe to do so.

I would never, ever try to fly my birds outside. Even the professionals lose birds. My bird's safety is my responsibility and I take it very seriously.

Don't want anyone coming here with very little parrot experience trying to free fly their birds. That's what happened with Andrew.

    Keep your birds safe!!

With due respect to you, try to find out more of me and the ten years I have been taking and flying my greys outdoors.

Do tell me what you meant by 'professionals'? People who lost their birds despite flying them at the edge of starvation are 'professionals' ?
I be happy to remain amateur.

And how much do you know of Andrew and the 'training' that he had done ?

Neither ignorance nor the scissors that will enable you to keep your birdie safely with you. It is the understanding and the knowledge that will do that.

If you rather not read and rather not know , by all means, go walk your path in peace.
    Warmest regards

Shanlung, you have been around a long time but are you seriously trying to promote outdoor flight to someone who just got a parrot. You lost your bird did you not? And got it back? You have been doing this a long time and still you lost your bird. I don't know why you are getting so defensive. Just as you have the right to your opinion, I have the right to mine.

When you post to a bird board, you should always consider the person who has just got their first parrot. Safety should always come first and most new bird people are not equipped to free fly their birds outside. There is a huge difference to flying inside and flying outside where predators are just one of the many problems.

Not all professionals starve their birds either. If someone was interested in free flying their bird, they should only do so under the mentorship of a professional who can teach them what they need to know and it can take years. Pictures and clips on You Tube just won't cut it.

I'm glad to see Bev's response. I just read your other post, in the Bird Chatter forum and decided not to respond because it made me so angry. But since Bev's already said what I would have, but without my anger, HOORAY!

The few people who pop in here anymore are almost always beginners who might be excited to think of doing what you do, Shanlung, with no realization of how carefully you've proceeded. Just one example, of too many that come to mind years after I've read them here... A young man posted, heartbreak evident, of his new 'tiel having flown off his shoulder outside. When someone asked why he was outside with his bird on his shoulder, he said he'd seen a man walking in the park with his macaw on his shoulder and thought that's what one does with parrots. Not everyone has your long years of experience, Shanlung. I'm pretty sure I said that to you years ago when you posted many of these same pictures here. Please don't make this mistake again. This in not the forum for you. Your pictures will kill birds here.

If anybody go fly a parrot even if just at home on the basis of seeing some photos or videos of that being done, those people are asking for nothing but trouble.
Those people would do that even if they do not see photos or videos.

If you all bother to read what I have written, you would have seen I have more dire warnings than the explicit and careful steps of how to do that.
Until I was taken to task as to why I need to write such warnings.

As I have said, it is the lack of knowledge and understanding that need to be addressed.
    Warmest regards
