New, More Pictures of Skirt for Cage DOOR - DoorSkirts

Postby AbbyBird on Wed May 14, 2008 7:47 pm

Hi There :) ***UPDATED MATERIAL and only a 1/4 the $$ now!
I posted this about 2 weeks ago or so under cages and accessories and a couple different chat forums (Grey Chat, Cockatoo Chat and Macaw Chat) and I got a lot of really positive responses and emails - thank you so much! It was recommended to me that I continue to post this in some of the larger parrot forums so that it reaches more people (not everyone looking for a cage so may not see this in that section....)

I have designed (and patented) a new skirt/apron/guard for the door of your parrots cage. You know how the existing skirts/seed guards go around the base perimeter of your cage but don't extend out enough to cover the width of the door when its open? Therefore you have to put newspaper/mats underneath the door part of your cage to protect the floor from poop and debris? well these skirts come in 3 different sizes and various colors - are easy to mount, removable and positionable skirts that fit most all luxury style cages and come with a removable, disposable liner. You just mount the skirt to your door (it slides left/right so that you can open/close door without interference) and so when your parrot sits on the top of the door the messes get caught in this little 2.5" deep trapazoid-shaped "skirt".

I have lots of additional pictures and information I can send you if you'd like to contact me directly at: info@doorskirts.com. My site will be up very soon and I have several ads coming out in Bird Talk magazine and a few others. So far everyone who has bought a skirt has REALLY liked them and has proven to be a permanent solution to messing on the floor. They are AWESOME!

*Please note: some of the pics are of non-powder coated skirts so that you can see the detail of their design and in some pics the skirt is bigger than what they really are....that was my original design...but they are now very slim - only 2.5" deep (not 4.5" like in some pics). There are 2 styles available....one with brackets and one without.

I welcome your opinion and feedback...please share your thoughts - pos or neg :) Karen 1-877-SKIRTS-9 (1-877-754-7879)

Hi Everyone.....due to unrelated issues, there has been a VERY lengthy delay in getting these into production and my website going. HOWEVER, my site will be up and running after the turn of the new year, i have a new manufacturer lined up and all will be in production starting in mid-Jan, early Feb. Thank you to everyone who has been so patient. I look forward to selling lots of Door Skirts to you all! So far everyone that has one has said its been a dream come true. That they keep poop and debris off the floor and that they are very easy to clean and remove, mount, etc. Everyone has been very very pleased. Thank you all. Karen 425-772-1866

    Hi Karen,

The first two pictures appear to be galvanized sheet metal, are you powder coating over galvanized metal?

The simple act of Galvanizing sheet metal is poisen for birds. By defination this is a metallurgical process that is used to coat steel or iron with zinc. Hint-Zinc is poisen for birds.

"Zinc coatings prevent corrosion of the protected metal by forming a physical barrier, and by acting as a sacrificial anode if this barrier is damaged. When exposed to the atmosphere, zinc reacts with oxygen to form zinc oxide, which further reacts with water molecules in the air to form zinc hydroxide. Finally zinc hydroxide reacts with carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to yield a thin, impermeable, tenacious and quite insoluble dull grey layer of zinc carbonate which adheres extremely well to the underlying zinc, so protecting it from further corrosion, in a way similar to the protection afforded to aluminium and stainless steels by their oxide layers." Wiki- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanization

Goes on to to include the chemical Hot Dip method: "hazardous caustic, acid, and flux baths required to prepare the metal for hot dip galvanizing."

Might want to use stainless or regular sheet metal, IE; aluminum, steel, or even wood?

The doorskirts are powder-coated, with a nice finish. The powder coating actually looks better done then on some cages!
