Sexing Rosey Bourkes

Postby highdesertdiva on Thu Aug 28, 2008 10:59 am

Just when I think I`ve got it figured out, I realize that I do not have it figured out....lol. I have four Roseys in a large flight cage. They are all young. Each set are two siblings unrelated to the other two. Just today, I noticed one of these guys picking on its sibling, as well as one other. The bird doing the squabbling, is a clean pink bird with no grey on its head. It is sqaubbling with a pink bird with grey on its head and neck. Would the bird that is beginning to squabble most likely be a male?
Oh, and I did get the new pair of Rosey Bourkes....including the male that nearly killed another. He is HUGE! A much bigger Rosey than my others and a deep, rich Flamingo pink. I took one look at him and forgave all his sins....lol. I have, however, decided to keep him and his equally gorgeous wife, seperated from the others. They have been set up with a nesting box and have settled in really well. I am so in love with these pink birds. I could just sit and watch them all day.

Rosy hens have more grey throughout their body and greyer faces. Their head has a rounder shape than the male. Also, when you pull the wing out you can see a wingstripe on hens, and not on males, but this is not 100% accurate.
