Tasmanian Rosella

Postby highdesertdiva on Sun Jan 17, 2010 10:39 pm

I have a HUGE male Tasmanian Rosella. I have searched and searched for a female. How rare are these since I cannot find any? There must be somebody raising these out there. Anyone know of a breeder? I am in Central Oregon.Thanks.

Have you looked for green rosellas?

In the USA, Rosella's aren't very common. I've seen Eastern Rosella's but can't recall seeing any others. I may have, but they aren't commonly kept by many people. I have found a few breeders though.

Yes, I have searched under Green as well as Tasmanian Rosella. Thank you for suggesting those three outstanding breeders....but none have what I am searching for. The good folks at Singing Wings did`nt even know anyone who did have them. Just makes me wonder, where in the heck did this big boy come from. I purchased him locally, but did`nt get a chance to find out his history. I bought him because I really did`nt know what he was...and was intrigued. The guy I bought him from said he was an Eastern Rosella, but the moment I saw him , I knew that was`nt the case. They , apparently, are extremely rare....although I don`t know why. He is a large, beautiful, calm bird. He has a loud , clear whistle at dusk. I enjoy him very much. I just wish I could find him a girlfriend.

Don't suppose he has a band?

If you live near where he was purchased, you could always try asking them to see if any of them remember where he came from.

Otherwise, I haven't a clue myself! Best of luck!

Well, I have since learned that I have misidentified my bird. He is NOT a Green Rosella....he is a Yellow Rosella. Life is for learning. Thank you Eva for your expert observation!
