Help!! My password doesn't work! I can't log in.

Postby damian on Sun Aug 03, 2008 8:24 am

There have been quite a few cases where people can't log in to the system. I want to explain the most common reasons and how they can be corrected.

If you're newly registered and cannot log in:
1) It can take up to 72 hours for us to verify your request for access. You might receive a phone call from us if we notice some abnormalities or everything could go smoothly and you never hear anything with the exception of you're approved. Being accepted to post on Up At Six is not a right and our number one priority is to protect our current users from abuse. Please don't send an angry mail just because of this. Remember, you'll be the one being protected also once you're accepted.

If you've been a user on the Up At Six network and all of a sudden your password doesn't work:
1) Passwords, unlike usernames are CaSe sEnSiTivE. This means if your password is TesT1234 then you must put it exactly as such. test1234 will not work nor will TEST1234. Not even tEST1234. It must be exactly as you have it in your email or how you set it when you last changed your password.

2) User names are NOT case sensitive. This means joeuser can be entered as JoeUser, Joeuser, joeuser or JOEUSER.

3) After a pre-determined number of password failures, you must read the page very carefully. We force you to enter more than just your user name and password after so many log in failures have occurred on your account. This is to prevent others from password guessing your account either manually or by the use of robots whose only purpose is to brute force access into the users accounts. The information is not difficult to provide and the instructions will be in red lettering at the top of the page. If your account is in this mode, your log in screen will look like this:

Now if you look carefully, we're being told someone, either us or someone else trying to access our account, has had too many log in failures here. It also tells us that we must enter the confirmation code that is shown in the image below. One final thing it tells us is that the image containing the confirmation code has no zeros in it and that the code is case InSenSiTiVe meaning it can be entered in all upper, all lower or any variation thereof.

So, for this we need to put in our username, our correct password, the confirmation code listed in the image and optionally, lets get automatically logged in from here out so we don't have to log in each time we visit. When completed, your screen should look similar to this:

We can now log in and make use of the network.

Enjoy the system,

Damian
The key to happiness is to avoid ever putting salt in your eye. Not matter how tempted and curious you may be, consider it unwise. Those who are still willing to attempt such a feat should at the very least have a video recording system handy so others may benefit by watching your mistake take place...
