1) Select the topic of your choice. Remember, the Up At Six Chats has many different areas to chose from. Try to keep your post on topic. i.e. you wouldn't want to post a question or 'start a thread' on macaws in the cockatiel area and you never want to post spam or advertising in the chat groups. Advertising is only allowed in the classifieds area.
2) Once you've made your selection, look for the New Topic button which is to the left of "Search this forum" and click it:
3) That will bring you to the Post a New Topic window. Here we can select an icon for our post, a subject and of course give the details of our post. You'll notice a number of buttons between the Subject area and the posting body area. Those are called the bbcode buttons. Those buttons allow you to do many things including bolding certain areas of your message, quoting responses, inserting images/urls or changing font colors. Hold your mouse over each one to get an idea of how they work. You can select a certain area of text and make it bold for example. For the img tag, your image must already be located on the internet somewhere you can reference it with a URI (uniform resource indicator) such as the one for the below screen shot. A URI looks like this:
- Code: Select all
http://www.upatsix.com/images/how-to/bbcodes-image.png

4) Also notice on the right there is a Smiles area. You can place a smile in your post by just clicking on the smiley of your choice. The smiley area looks like this:

5) Another thing to note with the smileys area is it shows your basic settings and permissions for BBCode, images, flash, url and Smilies.
6) At the bottom of the page, underneath the Submit button you'll notice a few more options. The options themselves should be self explanitory but lets take a look at the 2nd tab called Upload attachment. Now you can already put an image in your post using the above BBCode buttons but that requires that your image already be online. You can use the Upload attachment area if the picture you want to post isn't already online but still on your computer. It's easy, just click the Browse button to the right of Filename and add a comment below in the File comment area. Once you've selected your file and added a comment, simply click the Add the file button and your image will be uploaded to the server and placed in your posting. You can use the Upload attachment area for posting different kinds of files but note that not all file types are allowed. For security reasons, most are disallowed. The Upload attachment tab looks like this:

7) At this point you can preview your posting to make sure you have everything to your standards by clicking the preview button. If all looks good, go ahead and click Submit and your posting will be published.
Enjoy the system,
Damian
