How to setup your Jabber

Postby damian on Sat Jun 28, 2008 1:58 pm

Jabber... it's a neat and underused feature we have on upatsix.com. I won't go over the download and install again as you can always get that information here but I would like to show those that have it setup how to integrate it with your Up At Six Chats account. After following these instructions, you'll be instantly notified anytime you receive a private message or someone posts to a thread you've subscribed to.

Step One: Click the User Control Panel link in the upper right corner of the screen (aka the UCP)

Step Two: Once you're in the UCP you'll see a number of tabs. Click the Profile tab

Step Three: This may be a two part process for some, depending on if you've already selected your location in the Location drop down list. First off lets get the easy stuff out of the way. Select your State from the drop down list. This is required and important because if I ever get time... we'll be able to search by State. A much needed feature. With that done, lets get back to what we came here for... Click the Jabber address field on the right side of the screen and put your Jabber ID in it. If you haven't created your Jabber ID on the upatsix.com network yet, you'll have to refer to my previous post in the Jabber forum located at here. Once you've entered your Jabber ID, click submit.

Step Four: (Enable notifications) Now lets make use of it. Click on the Board preferences tab

On the right side, select which notification method you'd prefer. Your choices are E-mail only, Jabber only or Both. Then hit the Submit button

That's it. Kinda cool isn't it? 8)

Enjoy the system,

The key to happiness is to avoid ever putting salt in your eye. Not matter how tempted and curious you may be, consider it unwise. Those who are still willing to attempt such a feat should at the very least have a video recording system handy so others may benefit by watching your mistake take place...
