Higgins Nederlands Vita Seed

Postby Mercy4Free on Sat Jan 12, 2008 11:58 am

Can anyone tell me if Higgins Nederlands Vita Seed is any good? I bought it for my finches, but am also tryign to get them on some other foods. I just gave them some new seed and tore up the tips of brocolli on it so its litle and they pretty much have to get some while getting the seeds.

This seed has a bit of an orangey smell to it so maybe it has orange peel stuff in it........says it has seeds, fruits and other key ingredients. it says it now contains extruded tasty morsels of nederlands vita krunch (maybe their pellets?). Not that I necessarily believe everything on packages of course...

Personally, I do not care for food mixes that contain both seed and pellets. I also don't care for food mixes that contain dyes. IMO, it's junk food.

I don't really know any good brands for finch seed though.

I tend not to like pellet/seed mixes simply because you pay more when pellets are added to seed. If I wanted to feed pellets, I'd buy the brand I wanted and then would serve it in a separate bowl.
Sprouted seed and chopped veges are also served separately to prevent them spoiling in the seed bowl.

I would recommend a canary/finch mix since you get more variety. Check out this site and compare the types of seed in each mix and prices.

Their web site isn't the easiest to navigate, but they carry quality brands and mixes. I recommend calling them to place an order since it will be shipped faster than going thru the site.
