Organic canary seed

Postby Bluebird99 on Fri Nov 30, 2007 6:10 pm

Was wondering if anyone could recommend an online source for purchasing a good organic canary seed blend.

I have tried many different seed blends, most bought from pet chains, and my canaries aren't too thrilled with them.

I bought Abba canary seed online and it seemed about the same.

I supplement their seed with a mixture of cous cous, rolled oats, & miracle meal mixed with vitamins, minerals and probiotics. It is removed within a few hours.

The only organic canary seed I have found available online is from Canada and requires American buyers to fill out an import form.

What have you other canary owners found your little ones enjoy gobbling up as far as dry seed goes?

I don't think it's organic, but the best, quality seed I've found online is birdseed.com..... https://secure.fire2wire.com/birdseed/

Their website isn't the greatest but use their 'search' to quickly find what you're looking for.
Also be sure to request a catalog.

I checked that out, and thanks for the info annz!

I like that they are in California. Never heard of Volkmans, but it looks like yummy seed. I'll give it a try and buy a 4lb bag.

I think you'll like it.........their seed is so 'clean'. The Volkman Featherglow line is one I often use for the hookbills.

I've used them for years.........started when I lived in Calif.! Call them directly for faster shipment. Otherwise, there's a time delay if you order online.

When I had finches and canaries I found they both liked a mix of canary/finch seed. Even my parakeets enjoy finch/canary seed now and then.
