If the paper isn't wet, you could just leave it. Finch nests can get 'nasty' during laying and covered with poop so it could be it's in a normal state.

I don't think I'd use the moss.....are you referring to the gray type moss? Lint, dried clean grass, or shredded burlap is the safest.

Great link, Ann. The dose of calcium now makes a great deal of sense. I was aware that calcium deficiency will give you a soft egg, but never thought about its causing muscle weakness. Duhhhh Thanks!

Cheers,

So I am prety sure these are not fertilized eggs........Monday will be two weeks since laying the first egg. There are four total. When do I throw them away? I think they have already lost some interest in them.

They should completely loose intrest soon. Gouldian eggs hatch at 18 days, and I believe Zebra eggs are a similar time frame. Before you toss though, shine a bright light up to each one. Clear/yellow is fine to toss, dark would be a chick that is formed, so place them back in the nest and return it.

When you toss them, I would take the nest away as well to give the hen(s) a break.
