I've been continuing to offer a pelleted diet to my Gouldians, but they avoid them. Much harder to convert than the tiels and Ringneck!

My husband has been giving our finches the leftover crumbs from our parrot's zupreem pellets. They seem to like them... though not as much as their fresh food. The button quail also like it. :)

My birds, especially the canaries, like Exact rainbow, but I don't...because of what appears to be artificial colors and that bubble gum aroma. They don't care for the "original/uncolored/unscented". I just quit raising canaries after 4 years of trying, because I could not set up the proper breeding conditions for them, but I thought that the pellets might provide better nutrition for the babies. I continue to provide it for the society finches, as this might make them better parents in case they are used to foster species that need a diet other than just seeds.

Half of the fun in raising birds for me is finding that special little food item that they go crazy for. Bird's nutritional needs change throughout the seasons (breeding, molting etc) and I feel it an obligation to meet those changing needs...In my experience caged birds on a varied and dynamic diet behave dynamically. And while pellets might be easy...they just aint no fun.

There's buckets of information on nutrition available online, just dig in.
