Funny Finch Nest

Postby AgileAussie on Fri Jul 06, 2007 9:22 pm

Ihave a small aviary with 3 pairs of finches and a male Glouster fancy canary. I think I have one pair sitting on eggs. Although we have 3 cane nests, one pair have set up their nest on top of another nest (the one with eggs) and sort of jammed it in a branch! Will they be okay if they decide to raise a family there?

If they feel secure in it, it's probably okay. I've had one nest collapse, but have also seen some that looked really precarious hold up just fine. Don't know what you could do to intervene at this point....?

WHat kind of finches?

Cheers,
Pat

I have Zebra Finches. They seem happy there - I hope they don't disturb the pair sitting on eggs!

If they actually lay eggs in the 'homemade' nest just keep an eye on it. If it starts falling apart you could take most of the material, along with the eggs, and place it all into an open canary nest and hang it in the same area.
With 3 pairs, try adding at least 2 more nests so they have more nesting sites to choose from.
