Alternatives to Finches from Puerto Rico?

Postby NYC on Thu Apr 26, 2007 4:00 pm

i have asked around and a couple people told me since i want to purchase multiple species pairs (star, strawberry, mutation zebras, mutation societies, fawn shaftail, gouldians...) i should go with "the PR wholesalers".

i agree, as i've spent a load on just a pair of c bleus, orange cheeks, goldfinches locally. however i have been scammed
before, and don't want to deal with anonymous internet Overseas sellers.

can anyone recommend a mainland breeder or wholesaler in finches?

I think you're making the right move to buy domestic raised birds. I share Garrie Laundry's thought on the difficulty of keeping wild caught birds and the belief they shouldn't be caught at all.
When it comes to mutation lines, I would definitely buy from a breeder who knows and controls their blood lines. Plus, their prices are always better than what you see in retail stores.

Garrie had a good reputation when I was breeding/showing birds and I always bought my nesting material from him, so he may be of help to you.....

Otherwise, to start off with really nice birds, visit the bird shows and meet the breeders.

hi Annz! Garrie is one good guy! during high school i ordered from him several times, but unfortunately when i went off to college, i never got around to get my pairs producing, and gave them alll away. now its like starting from ground zero, and he replied saying he can't take my order for at least another 2 weeks, he said check back in mid may. somehow i think finches have gotten so popular that he is always going to be backordered.

i know he's the best, but surely theres other good breeders, right?! i asked singing wings but for instance even in societies "they only have males" right now :?
