Canary - Want another clutch, Need advise

Postby 1chloe1 on Sun Apr 08, 2007 12:40 pm

I have a set of canaries that had a clutch (1 baby). How do I go about setting them up to breed again? I currently breed Zebra Finches, Budgies, and Cockatiels. I do not have to do anything to allow them a second clutch.

Do I need to seperate the birds? Do I remove the current nes and let them build another?

This is my first time and I can't find any information. I hope that someone knows?!?!?

But I've never done anything other than just feed them well and let them go about their business. Some canaries are just not very prolific. But if there is enough food and light and nesting materials, they will want to breed. At least I've found that with mine. I've never had any pairs that really produced a lot of offspring. Maybe it's just me.

I usually put a second nest in the cage with new nesting material. You will notice once the female is ready to start to lay a new clutch of eggs she will start ripping paper to build a new nest which is usually before the first clutch of babies are ready to be taken from the parents. Make sure she has nesting material or she will pull the feathers out of the baby birds to build the new nest. Hope this helps.

Are the canaries in a cage with all the other birds or in a cage of their own?
