Need help on finding out about Weaver Finches

Postby sreed on Thu Mar 08, 2007 7:02 pm

I'm new here also and have high hopes that someone out there can give me some tips on how to get or what I have to do to get my Weavers to breed. Have one male who is ready (his color has changed to bright orange) and a female that came with him (last owner said they were a breeding pair). Have tried nest, nest boxes, raffia, grass, sticks, hay...what's left to do??? Would appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks

Have you tried to increase the amount of daylight?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but weavers are nearly impossible to breed in captivity. They 'weave' their nest so they need plently of flight room and the ideal location to build their nests. This site may help... http://www.birds2grow.com/art-weavers.html

Another thing is you need at least 5 females to a male. I cut up pieces of burlap into squares and took it apart and hung it in the cage with a clothspin. The weaving was awesome!!
