Blackface zebra male chasing away the female

Postby melson on Wed Jul 21, 2010 3:57 pm

Hi guys.
i had purchased a Blackface zebra male who had bred with another female.but i could not purchase the female as she was already bought by someone else.i tried to pair him with other females but he keeps chasing them all away...today its 3 weeks hes with a black breasted female.he sleeps in the nest and she on the floor of the cage.i put in some nesting material....both take it into the nest but after they come out he chases her again.i dont understand this behaviour.this is the 4th female im pairing him up with.is he missing his previous partner...she was bigger in size too.

Melson.

You are asking him to mate with a new female too fast. TAKE THE NEST OUT and let them bond. At least 6-12 months, then reintroduce the nest.

Birds are not like dogs or cats, they will not mate unless they like the other bird, bond with them, have adequeate food, water, sunlight, and are ready.
