Safe rope materials for our new canary?

Postby Melissa2010B on Sat Jun 12, 2010 8:57 pm

We just adopted a sweet little canary via the RMSA - Rocky Mountain Society of Aviculture "Adopt A Bird" program, at the meeting last night.

1 shows the cage he came in. 2 shows his new digs, etc.

I cut some new perches for that big cage this evening and notched them and put them in, but want to add some rope ones too. Just wondering if there's anything I should know about safe ropes for canaries?

We use natural sisal, jute and cotton for our lovebird and tiels. Are those fine for a little guy like this?

Those would be just fine for your new bird. Just keep an eye on stray threads and the length of the canary's toenails. I also use apple branches in with my gouldian finches. :)
