Canary not sitting on eggs

Postby ozarkmtnbirdies on Sat Mar 21, 2009 9:32 am

I have two canary pairs. One laid 4 eggs and now not sitting on them. The other laid 5 eggs and starting sitting for the last three days. I do not know how to get bronze hen to sit on her eggs? Should I put them under the hen that is sitting? she already has 5 eggs. If they do hatch can I move them back to bronze hen and mate to feed them?

Sorry this is so late. If the bird isn't sitting on her own eggs, they may be infertile, or she may not have bonded and mated with the cock bird. I wouldn't have the other bird try and foster the chicks because if they all hatch there will be too many for her to care for.

It is best to just let nature take it's course in this case. Leave the eggs, and if she doesn't start sitting within 7 days of the last egg being laid, then I would remove the eggs and nest, let the pair rest, and try a new location for the cage. Then after a few months, try setting them up again.
