Well, yesterday morning, I fed and watered all the birds and then went to work, just like normal. When I arrived home, I found that the main door to the cage I have 3 male gouldians in was open. Now, this door is one that needs lifted and pulled out to open, and I was the last one to leave, and the first one home, so I don't understand how it got opened, especially since I didn't touch that door in the morning!
One finch, band #63 is my good boy. He stayed in the cage all day, even with the door open. His brother #64 and their father had escaped though. I knew that all the doors to all the rooms were open, and that there wasn't any open liquid containers, so I calmly started going from room to room. I checked the bathroom first, no bird, so I closed that door. Then I walked into the bedroom and closed the doors. Then I started looking around, BINGO! One finch flying around. After a few minutes, O'Neill (the father) was captured and back in the cage. I then searched the kitchen, dining room, second bathroom, living room, and finally the second bedroom. BINGO!! Finch #2 was flying around. After a slightly longer chase, I managed to catch him and get him back into his cage.
I sitll have no idea how they got out, and in the 5 years I've had that cage, nothing like this has ever happened. Just goes to show, we all need to make sure that our house is bird safe even if we don't plan on them being out at that moment!!
