This one also is the best for actually showing his size, but you can certainly see his 1/4 Red Sided beak! :D

Thank you everyone. I sure think he's a pretty special boy! His daddy Mistletoe, who belonged to my friend Cindy, died this past spring and it's been very hard on her. I think our day together Saturday helped her heal a bit, and she took some fantastic pics. Some birds look similar because they're the same species, but they still have little things that make them look slightly different. Skyler looks exactly like Mistletoe.
He is absolutely spoiled to the bone! :D

Wow he's beautiful :D & looks exactly like Eddie :D :D :D
Eddie is only 295grams, a real lean machine LOL. I give him plenty of nuts to fatten him up a bit but I think he burns off the fat before he can store it LOL he's VERY hyperactive. I just love how they clench their toes closed like that, Eddie does too. Eddies also been doing a lot of over preening so I got him a few feathers for his perch so he can practice on them & give his feathers a break. His head is in perfect condition becasue he can't reach it LOL

How old is skyler? Eddie is still a baby so he's also very messy from playing (he never stops) & molting.
This is Eddie now, taken 5 mins ago

This is Eddie at about 4 months old, before he became hyperactive & messy LOL

Aww.. Eddie is cute! :) He's got OCD of the feathers! Hopefully he'll get outta that habit! But he sure looks like a sweetheart!

I'm sorry to hear about Mistletoe

(What a cute name, by the way!) They do look like Christmas birdies!

Andrea - he is absolutely gorgeous. I have a friend who has a male ekkie and she just adores him. He is such a snuggler.

He looks so cute lying on his back.

I am so sorry to hear about his dad.

Eddie is also beautiful. Bob had a patch from what I would guess preening also, but it's a lot better.

I like your play perch. What type of wood did you use?

Hi Kim
Skyler was 2 in May of this year. You might hook up with feedingfeathers@yahoogroups.com They are a wonderful site for diet/nutrition help, and Eddie might benefit from an even slight change in his diet to help elminate his overpreening. You can look at variety in his toys as well, that can be helpful in keeping his attention elsewhere. It's amazing how beneficial some small changes can be so Eddie can have a full body of feathers!! :D

The website didn't work
I'll certainly look into it if I can get it working. Eddies on such a huge range at the moment, you name it, he gets it, it would be interesting to see what changes there could be that fix this And toys.......they're never ending & various kinds, he uses every single one.

I was told it is a normal learning process of preening for most young ekkies.

You might have to go to yahoogroups.com and 'search' for Feedingfeathers. From there you should be able to find it. If not let me know and I'll get it to you. The help and information there is simply invaluable.
My eclectus does not preen very often. I think there is probaby more of that, naturally, in the wild, but if they don't see their 'mom's do it, they don't always instinctively know how. I don't worry about Skyler, he'll preen if he needs or wants to.

You might want to join cheepparrottoysntips.com also Kim. The site is owned (so to speak) by a friend and it's designed to help people learn how to make toys for their birds. It's a great place to find parts and ideas, and there a ton of great folks there. I belong to a group, also owned by the same person, called Parrot Toy Angels. It is an all volunteer, participation group and we make toys to donate to needy birds in bad situations, rescues, individuals who need help, etc. We recently made over 1100 toys for The Gabriel Foundation here in COlorado. It is not a chat forum although we certainly communicate on the site: it is a wonderful place with a dedicated mission.
You can look them over at parrottoyangels.com

I personally think birds sense when we're trying to help them, in many ways, and Eddie might enjoy seeing you make toys for him. Not to mention, it sometimes just takes some time for them to settle down, so to speak. Diet is probably more important for an eclectus than most any other species. Incorrect diet and nutrition is more responsible for their behavior than any other cause.

Thanks for that info. I will definately look at it.

Well Eddie is & has been well & truely settled in at home for some time, otherwise I don't think he'd be so chatty & playful 24/7 & I also make most of his toys because they're rediculously expensive & some aren't made of the correct materials. Eddie likes wooden things so I use bottlebrush, gum, grevillia branches & gums for the toys. Eddie especially like the nuts & they make him smell really nice too :D
