installed a Waterbottle

Postby Breeze on Fri Jun 13, 2008 12:11 pm

... I am so amazed, he was very curious and figured it out in a few seconds.
He was not particularely thirsty but inspected everything about it some more.
Now I am happy, fresh clean water all the time and no more soup

Now put another water bottle in there with lory mix! You will be further amazed at how much he will improve!

Some of my birds are very fond of dunking their pellets and other dry treats. I want them to have water bottles to keep their water clean while I'm away and unable to keep a close eye on bowls. But, when home, I often give them bowls as well so they can indulge themselves and dunk safely.

I'm glad your bird is so smart and curious.

.. since you did not elaborate on the use of Lori Powder, which I had stored in my freezer because I was unsure of its use, I added it to the cooked suppermix with really good results, but I see him getting tired of the sweet food, I might just do what you suggested.... also, I do not feed pellets at the moment, he had Harrison's before and sort of liked them.
I have found the Eclectus Volkman Seedmix a total waste since I throw out most of it. He never touched the dried fruits or most of the seeds and really only picked out the sunflower seeds and the Almonds which did not seem fresh to me.
I am now giving him Buckwheat Groats, Quinoa, Flax and 1-2 organic Almonds, he likes that.
He eats a lot of fresh veggies lately and I am only providing organic for him since that footshaking incident with the fresh Mexican Corn ... that could not be good even for humans who can tolerate more.

On another of his adventures, his Flightfeathers are almost grown in and he is FLYING
and making a nuisance of himself with ending up on our heads or I find him munching on my Impatients in the pot
so, he has to be taught some new rules ... he is a very curious bird and smart and he will learn, hopefully, that the flowers are there for everyone, hehe ...

...I am keeping his waterdish underneath the bottle for now ...

    Perfect!

The second water bottle filled with the lory nectar will be used more and more. And with enough showers (take him in with you everyday if possible) he will not bath in the water and then you can begin to remove the water dish completely!

His feathers will become a brilliant color and his attitude will change like night and day.

Side note: the lory nectar does not have to changed out everyday as in the bottle will be safe for every two or three days. You will find out how much he is actually using and adjust the mixture accordingly. If he does not consume an amount appropriate to his normal amount offset with organic fruit. Not completely removing the fruit from his diet all together but it does allow some sort of reduction not only in preparation but in costs overall. I know you have just one so this might not be a factor to begin with but knowing his diet is consistent will be comforting to you and him!

... there is a slight complication, I have the "Lori Powder" and not the nectar ...
I could offer it in a small dish or keep adding it to the solid food ... I do want to use it up before I get nectar ....
and that was my initial question as to how much to add to anything, but seeing it presented by you, purpleheart, I could just offer it just dry ...
