Overly bonded

Postby ScubaDog on Fri Aug 17, 2007 12:17 pm

I waswondering if anyone had any problens with there ekkies overly bonding with them?

We have a pair of unrelated SI ecluctus that will turn three years old next month. They both are fed proper diets, of fruits, veggies, grains and protiens. And live in a diy large avairy I buit out of steel...its powder coated.

The problem is that the male(Rico) loves me his daddy too much, he constantly tries to feed me infact he overtly insists to do so and gets pretty POd when his efferts arnt fully apprieciated. He also attacks the female(his girl bonita) when she decides to mix things up and hop on the opposit shoulder, thats allways fun, one on my right one on the left and my head in the middle lol.

But when I am gone at work for the nite the birds get along perfectly according to my wife when she takes them out of the cage for the evening. They also never fight in the cage ither. I am the catalist for the aggression!

Is there anything I can do to get a dear john letter from rico?

LOL! I'm sorry I had to laugh at your thread.I am owned by many parrots including 4 Eclectus.Rosie is only 1 yr 4 months and I've had
her for a year I also have her brother Merlin who is 8 months.Rosie and a bunch of my other birds are heavily bonded to me.They have me stretched out pretty thin. You have to set boundries for them in order for them to stop certain behaviors. As Rico tries to regurgitate for you it's up to you to put him down in a neutral place and try to discourage him from doing this.Next thing he will try to do the happy dance on your arm or where ever he thinks he can.Again discourage him from doing this as well.
I know what your going through with Rico and the regurgitating.I've been through it with Jack who is now Jade one of my CAG's name changed after being DNA sexed.I have quite a flock and I hope this helps you.

Thanks for the responce! Could you give me an example of a neutral place? I have tried taking him for a ride in the automobile and that seemed to tone him down for a day or so...

A neutral place would be any place that will discourage them from the behavior.A playstand, cage top,the floor or even in the cage temporary if that's what it takes. There were times I would pick Jade up and she would immediately start regurgitating for me.So she would get returned to cage or anywhere I felt necessary to place her.One time she started regurgitating and I placed her on top of her cage she shook her head and it just so happens my mouth was open whatever she had in her mouth was now in my mouth.Yuck! I was now a happy camper.
