problem with a baby ekkie

Postby cjbirds5 on Wed Sep 27, 2006 9:38 pm

I just pulled two 3 week old baby ekkies from the nest box today. It seems that the older one cannot stand up on his own. He is always laying flat on his belly. I am not sure if it is from fear or if he really cannot stand up. I checked them a few times while they were in the nest box and he seemed fine. Does anyone know anything about this? thanks in advance! -Chad

Hi Chad ,

I am going to take a wild guess that he is just maturing a bit slower than the other . At 3 weeks they are still young and developing their muscles and building strength .

So keep an eye on him , and when feeding him try and get him to stand up and work those muscles . I bet in no time he will be In Step with his sibling ( No Pun Intended ) .

Good Luck ,,,

I think what you are describing is what mine do as well..they are just fine when they are in the cage but when you bring them out..they just kinda lay there and look around? They are scared. I have one that was hatched 8-30 and still does it. He'll be in the cage running all over and climbing but when I put him on the floor to play..he just kinda looks at me. LOL I've raised a lot of ekkies and they all do this. The little one is just scared. He'll grow out of it.
Good luck!
