Solomon Island Eclectus

Postby conure2 on Fri Dec 11, 2009 2:24 pm

I have a question for all you experts. I am thinking about getting a Solomon Island Eclectus and was wondering if you recommend a male or female. We want one for a pet to join our home of a cockatiel, greencheek conures, caiques, and a red fronted macaw. Which one do you think would do better (less aggression and problems) with our noisy home?
Thanks,
Mitzi

    Hi there!

Yay, I am excited that you are investigating the prospect of adding one of this breed to your family! I love my SI ekkies!
I can unequivocally tell you that males make better pets in general. Hens can be aggressive and territorial. My males have always been more sweet and docile than the hens.

    Much love!

The males tend to be more mild mannered and the less dominant of the genders. They also don't get broody like the females who are the ones who protect the nest. I have not known a single incident where my male ekkie has bitten anyone. He's a great all around bird that will go to anyone.

I love red fronts and have always wanted one! I'm so jealous.

    Good luck!!!

Agree with the other two. The males make a much better family pet. Mine will go to anyone and has never even looked like he was going to bite anyone. I have heard that the females are moody and somewhat aggresive. Just what I have heard, I personally have not been around any females though.
