pairing/bonding?

Postby sivart on Sun Nov 05, 2006 9:45 am

Quick quiz: How exactly can one tell if a pair of birds should be called a pair or bonded pair? I have 2 GCC's both just under a year old; one a surgically sexed male, the other? They have now shared a cage for 2 weeks and mutually preen, etc.... Also, are there any indicators of gender I could look for? I've heard that males tend to be significantly larger than females. Any input appreciated.

Thanks,
TJW

GCC's can only be sexed by DNA testing or by being surgically sexed. Unless, of course, You observe egg laying..but, then, who has the time to do that????? I have yet to know a male GCC under the age of 2 to mate..but when GC's mate you will know it from the distinct cooing noises they make during mating....which they will do anywhere! GC's are not known for modesty LOL PLEASE keep in mind that any 2 GCC's will mate. They don't know they are brother and sister of father and daughter......and that inbreeding mars the species...I know eggs are exciting and the babies are SSOOO cute...but inbred babies are NOT what you want.
