Like others have said, you feed them until they refuse to feed from you. This is called abundance weaning and is prefered. If you force wean a bird, they are weaker and more apt to catch illnesses.

There will be a normal drop in ammount of food taken and weight during fledging, but this should never be more than 10% of their body weight. If a bird just is not weaning, there may be an infection and a vet visit is needed.

DEAR PETTER

IF YOU PULL YOUR THUMB OUT OF YOUR BUTT AND QUIT BEING A PECKER HEAD AND TAKE YOUR POLITICAL CORRECTNESS AND STICK IT WERE THE SUN DONT SHINE .HAVE GOOD DAY !

PS .........."He may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot but don't let that fool you. He really is an idiot."

Stuff like this has caused the downfall of many a good and informative board .Flaming has no place on a board like this. If I were a mod here this thread would have been locked when it started to get nasty. You do not have to answer any perceived affront with flaming and rudeness. Learn to act with some maturity rather than 'chat rage ' and you will come across as a mature, intelligent person. Have a nice day.-----Yogi

The lesson, as I see it, is that silence is the best way to shut something off . . . but who among us can be silent    Ms McDonald's qx was answered twice within 2 hrs of her posting, yet here we are 4 days later, still watching the wrestling match. We get what we deserve.

Parront --I absolutely agree. I should learn to keep my typing finger in my pocket. However I have seen this board almost shut down because of flaming, We have lost hundreds of very knowlegible ,helpful people who have started their own boards who no longer come here.I have been here for many years and have learned much here.I hate to see the opportunity to learn denied to others. NOW I'M DONE-----Yogi

No one attacked you. I said "what?" because I couldn't make out what you were saying. This is not an attack. ParrontPlus suggested that responding with "PULL YOUR THUMB OUT OF YOUR BUTT", "PECKER HEAD", and other such phrases might not be a constructive debate technique. This is also not an attack.

No one has called anyone a "HOLLY ROLLER", so I'm not sure who the "SO CALLED HOLLY ROLLERS" are, let alone by whom they are supposed to be so called. For myself, I think "holiness" is a silly concept; at any rate I don't make any claim to infallibility. I have an unfortunate tendency to offend people by accident, and some people inform me that my writing style sometimes comes off as condescending. This is unfortunate, but not so unfortunate that I care to resort to writing in monosyllables to avoid it.

You do not need expletives or insults to stand up for yourself, nor shouting in ALL CAPS -- I'm sure that in real life, you stand up for yourself all the time without screaming obscenities. You might, for instance, have stood up for yourself by telling me that "I don't care for your sarcasm. You know what I meant. I just didn't know how to spell 'wean'." (To which I might have replied, "I'm sorry if I offended -- I honestly didn't know what you meant -- you wrote 'WING' so I thought it might have to do with wings -- fledging? -- and perhaps the tone came off poorly as I wrote it rather hastily. I was hoping you would clarify in response to my post, and help other people respond.") This, of course, is not what happened. I think it might have been preferable.

No one here wants a fight. I did ask -- I just asked badly... Your apology is accepted -- and I apologise for not taking more time to phrase my initial question in a better way.

That's great news! Have they weaned? If so, at what age? Hope you've found good homes for all of them.

Congratulations, Paca

Re: BABY CONURES

Postby petdiva on Tue Mar 25, 2008 11:32 am

Glad to hear the babies are doing well.

Are they weaned yet, or are you still handfeeding? The only problem that I ran into while hand feeding is that after the baby Suns' flight feathers were in, they kept flying off to explore while I was trying to feed. They became really good flyers very quickly. I ended up clipping their feathers sooner than I had planned, but I was also worried about them flying into a window or losing a toe. Several times, they landed on my African Grey's cage, and he was NOT happy about it. Since his cage is 6' tall, I had to get a chair to get them off and do it quickly before he climbed over to them. I think he would bite their toes if he got the chance.
