I would opt for the Sun Conure if looking for a companion for a child. I would also be sure to get a newly weaned hand-fed baby, this way the bird grows up with the child. If the child is taught to handle the bird with respect, the sun will make a great companion for your child. I have a 2 yr old Sun conure which is great with all of my children, ages 4 - 8, and he has been from day one. We got him when he was just 3 mos old, from a great breeder. Green cheeks are known for being more nippy and bossy. The only draw back to the Sun is their ear-piercing scream, and they are very demanding of time. I love their social personality though. Mine will never refuse to be held and loved on.
