Constant Attention

Postby Catriona on Sat Aug 11, 2007 1:12 pm

Hi All,

I have 2 conures a CGC -male, a little over a year old-, and a GCC - sex unknown, about 8 months old. I've had the male almost a year and the other about 6 months. Since I've had both of them I have worked from home. So they are pretty much with me all day. The male (Coco) would love to be held ALL day long and if I'm not in the room screeches. The other one (Kiwi) is much more easy going and content to sit on the cage. They have plenty of toys and a huge cage, which they are pretty much are never in. My question is is there anything that would make them less dependent on me? Anything I can do that would help make them happier when I leave the house? I feel like I am chained to their cage and it's driving me nuts! I realize that birds need attention, but I never realized it would be 24 hours a day and constantly. Any advice would be appreciated!!

Thanks

My GCC is kind of like that, but I dont have two. (Thank God) haha. They are very needy animals huh? Mine screeches when I leave the room too but I try to leave the radio on or TV for them so he does not feel so lonely. MY GCC has alot of toys as well and really could care less about them, he is happy to just sit on my shoulder.

Maybe a radio or Television would help?

I have a gcc and if she had her way she would be sitting on me 24 hours a day. However, we do have a routine - 1 -1/2 hours in the morning and another 1 -2 hours in late afternoon I take her out. I let her sit in her play stand or on top of me. The rule of thumb is play with her as much as your time is allowed.

I would try a routine. Another suggestion, mix up her toys, rearrange the cage and place something new or interesting. Try some foraging toys (like a cage type that you can place a treat inside) This will keep her busy. Do this when you will be a way from her.
