Fiery-shouldered conure = good apartment bird?

Postby gidyup3 on Wed Jul 11, 2007 2:29 pm

Hello!
I'm thinking about getting a new pet bird, and the fiery-shouldered conure has caught my eye. However, I live in an apartment, so noise is an issue...and conures aren't exactly the quietest of birds. Everything else about this bird is exactly what I'm looking for in a long-term pet. Does anyone out there have experience with this specific type of conure? I've heard it's rather new on the pet market, and according to my research it's a quieter conure, "ideal for an apartment setting" according to one site I read through. Any comments?
Thanks so much!

They ARE pyrrhura conures, and pyrrhura conures ARE considered to be good apartment pets (as long as they are allowed). They DO have a high pitched screach, and they DO tend to be nippy (however it can be worked through as long as you know how to deal with a nippy bird), but otherwise I'm sure one would be a wonderful pet!

Indeed though, the fiery-shouldered conure isn't seen too much in captivity but I'm sure given a few more years will become more popular.

I have a green cheek conure and she is really quiet. She does screech once in awhile when she first sees us coming into the room. Mostly she "quacks" - kind of like a duck. They are really wonderful birds; loves to cudle and enjoys human company. The green cheeks come in various colors (mutated colors). I would highly recommend this bird for apartments.

Here is picture of mine (she is in love with our chihuahua):

I have a GCC and he rarely makes noise unless I leave the room and he just does that a few times its nothing constant. Conures are suppose to be perfect apartment pets.
