I am not sure about pomerganate seeds but I know my BCCs love pumpkin seeds. You might do some checking on the internet and see what you can find out. Hope this helps.

I know that parrots eat seeds in the wild, but they also visit clay licks and ingest clay which has a neutralizing effect on toxins from seeds. People can eat pomegranate seeds and grape seeds without any ill effect so maybe they won't hurt birds. The bottom line, I really don't know, but I would like to find out too. Jake eats apple seeds if I don't get them out of the apple core before I give it to him (crazy bird won't eat a slice I give him, but he will demolish the core).

Thanks birdiemama. Looks like me and the fids will be dining on pomegranate seeds. I didn't know they were so good for you.

I couldn't believe it either when I read it. I never knew. I was also shocked to read about pumpkin seeds. I didn't know about them either. I loove those things too. I am going to get some and let everyone try some. I am glad you found it useful. Josie

Mine will unknowingly eat garlic. I put it in the birdie bread. Not a whole lot but just enough. I am glad you found the article as interesting. I now feed my birds pomagranite once a day. Kira (nanday) loves it. If I put it in her bowl with the other goodies she will just eat it. So for breakfast she get her broccoli and carrotts cauliflower all the yucky good stuff and then while we eat dinner to quiet her down and keep her busy we feed her the pomagranite. She flings that stuff all over the place. LOL Anyway. Thanks for letting me know the article was helpful. Josie

Do not let your fids eat apple seeds! They contain Cyanide and with the size of conures, it can only take a few to kill them! Cyanide also stays in the body and builds up over time. Core apples before giving them the seeds!!! There is a great list of poisonious plants and foods on this website:

Apple seed contains small amounts of cyanideThe quantities are very small so dont get hysterical if your bird gets a seed or two . However I wouldnt allow even that to be on the safe side. Peach seeds and like(prunes ,cherries etc)all contain cyanide. That's what gives the seeds that almond ,slightly bitter taste.---So beware-----Yogi
