two GCC

Postby Naomi on Tue May 15, 2007 11:18 pm

I got another baby GCC today, He/She is already weaned and a real sweet heart. He/She learned the step up comand in just a few minutes. It took ZaZu several days to get it down. ZaZu is much more vocal and has a much stockier build, also his tail is shorter. My new baby ( I havent thought of a name yet) is much more mellow, thinner, longer, and has a very long tail. they are only about 1 or 2 week apart in age. Could this indicate that I have a male and a female. Are there slight differences in male and female birds? I hope I have same sex birds because I want them to stay pets not want to breed. If they are opposite sex's is there anything I can do to prevent them from wanting to mate and not interact with me? i would love to hear from anyone who has 2 GCC in the same cage. What is their relationship with them? I am crazy about my (what I hope are boy's) and hope to keep a close relationship with them.
Thank you for your help,
Naomi

One thing I noticed within budgies, the males have longer tails, just slightly, than the females... however, I don't really know if this works in other species as I never tried to figure it out.

In the least, your best bet may be to get them DNA sexed and if they are opposite sexes, then just interact with them daily, and do not give them any chances to build a nest.

I am going to get them DNA sexed ASAP. I hope they are two males, But I have a feeling they may be male and female. They have such different personalitys. I just hope I can be included in there little world.

i do have a male and female , the male is 11 yrs old and hes very nippy and the female is about three years of age, i can play with both no problems. alot of us who have males noticed they are more nippy then the females. our little rose is a sweet heart handle and play anytime the male barney he gets really nippy and aggerssive at time both are caged together and both have a bond, just because they bond to one another dont mean they wont bond to you, im proof of that with 4 paired sun conures 2 paired green cheeks and a pair of dusky, just handle them and interact youre be fine ,and yes barney and rose did lay eggs and i was still able to handle both and right now a pair of suns are on eggs and i still handle both good luck

Thank you, Iam so glad to hear that. I love them both very much already and they are so sweet it would brake my heart not to get to play with them. I Have named the 2nd GCC Ziggy so its ZaZu and Ziggy. We went to visit my Dad for a few days and I took them. It really worked out good and because there travel cage is smaller than I'd like them to have to be in all day I got a play stand that fits on top. Anytime anyone was going to be in the same room with them but couldn't play with them they opened the door so they could climb up to the play stand and back in the cage when ever they wanted. They got alot of attention from different people. We malll had a good time.
