i just became the proud mama of a 1 year old yellow sided green cheek this afternoon. he is so sweet, but still a bit confused. last week he was at his former home, then sold to a pet store, and today he came home with me. The store gave me a free brand new cage with him, a brand new toy and 1 pound of food also free. I have wanted a conure for many years, I am so happy.

he has a great personality, and seems happy here so far. still a bit shy and camera shy but i did manage a few pics before bedtime.
i have not yet thought of a name for him, and these pics do not do him justice at all.

Thank you. I have no idea what he was called there because the pet store never gave me his name, not sure if they knew it. They only had him a week. I decided to call him Monet.

Thank you. So far he is settling into his cage fine and eating and drinking fine. He is not so keen on fresh foods but offering them anyway. I can handle him fine and he does not bite at all. I do think he stayed up too late last night though, but greeted me this morning with "pretty bird". I am not sure how long it will take him to completely trust me enough to want to come to me on his own. But will take things slow with him. I know he has to be confused.

well he still refuses to come out of his cage and has nipped at us 2 times, no blood though just a squeeze.

he loves to play with his ball at bedtime though, i guess when he is covered all the way he feels most comfortable, should i keep him mostly covered during the day so he can adjust more or let him see everything and everyone here?

he was making kissy noises last night after he got covered for bed too.

You are doing fine but in wanting to make your cutie pie quickly become a part of the family ,you are rushing things a bit. Slow down.Have a bit of interaction near the cage and then when he feels comfortablewith you ,you can try interacting away from the cage. Some people like to go to a nuetral territory like the bedroom and some birds just take everything in their stride. Just feel your way along. Just take it a bit more easy.-----Yogi

He is so cute. (Your tiels and kitty are beautiful too.) It won't take him long to feel comfortable. Maybe you can coax him out with a little treat. It will just take a little time.

If he is in a high traffic area he may feel more threatened. Or maybe keeping him partially covered for security will help. I would just talk softly to him now and then and he will learn to trust you.

    Congratulations.

well i moved his cage into my bedroom, which i am in off and on a lot during the day because that is where my computer is, and so he will not be totally alone, but I think he was in too high a traffic area for the time being. plus bedtime will be easier in my room for him I think he may actually go to bed in there at the proper time instead of staying up late playing.

i am not trying to push him into being my freind, I did have him out of the cage the second day he was here, but had to remove him from it to add new items. otherwise he has not come out of the cage yet on his own. he nipped me putting him back in the cage. he was fine on my shoulder while i was working on it, though. I don't really like the idea of just grabbing him out of the cage to take him in another room to work with him, so just waiting for him to come out first.

my 14 yr old daughter put her finger up there and got nipped the 3rd day. I had told her not to do that, and because of the nip she has not done it since.

he has eaten grapes from our fingers through the cage bars since his 3rd day here, and sometimes will take other foods from our fingers too but he does not like the other foods we have offered to him because he just would drop them on the bottom of the cage after tasting it.

just a side note: the "kitty" is actually a small dog LOL.

I would try feeding hime treats and try to see if he will come out of his cage on a perch. You might want to talk to him to get him used to the sound of your voice.

well the move to a bdroom did not last long. he did not like it in there, so I had to move him back to his spot in the living room. he seems happier in there and he did go to bed a little bit earlier last night then previous nights after talking to himself for a little bit once he tired of playing with his ball.
