Hi Everyone,
I recently got my first Conure. She is a Blue Crown and she has stolen my heart. She is precious!! I got her when she was on three hand feedings a day( I have hand fed before) and she really bonded with me. If I wasnt afraid of rolling on her I think she would sleep right in the bed with us. We named her Tikie. She says step up...but she wont do it. LOL I am having a hard time teaching her to do it. Any suggestions? I also have a Lesser Crested Cockatoo(Hitch) and a Hahns Macaw(Yodie) Green Quaker(Sammy) and a Senegal(Casey). About 2 months ago I lost my African Grey, he went to Rainbow Bridge. I still miss him so much. It brings tears to my eyes just to think about him. His name was Jake.We will be getting another Grey in about a month and a half. Not to replace Jake just to get another Grey cause they are great. And this Conure makes me want lots of Conures. LOL All kinds. How many of you have more then one Conure? Take Care.

Terry

Hi and welcome , my sugestion to help your bird step up is find a treat she just can't turn away from and hold it on one hand while gently putting your fingers under her chest and slightly lifting up, if you make the fingers an obstical to get over to get to the treat she'll step up to get to it.

Remember ---Step up means just that---step up. It is not a natural motion for a bird to step to a lower position. Try the suggestion by Alexisleann and when your bird has mastered that reinforce that by laddering----that is having your bird step up ,placing your other finger above that saying stepup each time. Its like climbing a ladder, Use lots of praise & stop when your bird shows signs of boredom. End on a happy note with a treat. Sliced almonds are good. Healthy & small. Available in bulkfood dept of large supermarkets. Special treat my birds are insane for -Plain unsalted pistachio nuts.----Yogi
