How big is your conure's cage?

Postby MyMax on Fri Jan 26, 2007 11:46 pm

Curious... My mum bought my Blue Crowns cage, and it's pretty small.

Luckily Max spends almost all of her time outside of her cage. :) I think it's 20X20X28. I'm always looking for a new cage, but don't have a ton of money to spend. :) (Like $70 - $100 is all I can afford right now.)

I want to buy her a cage that is at least 24X24X30... but lordy knows I wouldn't fight off a bigger cage if someone gifted it on me. :P Maybe I can put that on my birthday wish list.... only no one buys me birthday presents anymore...

My mum is making a Play stand for Max, which bring another question: Is there any problem with Sycamore wood and birds? She also thought she might use apple. Any suggestions?

A 20"x20" cage while a bit small for a conure is adequet for a bird that gets a lot of time outside the cage. Save your money till you can get get the cage you want. Don't forget the bar spacing is just as important ---1/2 to 3/4" for a conure. Stay away from fancy shmancy curliques---look pretty but a great place for your bird to hang himself. Noise it about you are looking for a cage . You would be surprised how many great cages are stored in basements after the bird is gone. Watch the classifieds.

Here's a list of safe woods

http://www.mdvaden.com/bird_page.shtml

The best woods are woods that have never had insecticides or other sprays on them. They need to be cleaned and disinfected. I bake mine at a low temp or if you have a very hot sun that will do just as well. Make sure any fasteners used are safe metals. Those little buggers chew anything they're not supposed to.----Yogi

my conure cage is 22x22x36, then a 2 foot stand under it so it's up to 60 actually but birds can't use that space so i don't count it really...i got it for 110 dollars that was with shipping on an ebay auction brand new in unopened box...I'm picking up a cage next week thats 32x32x64 and that is on a 8 inch stand so theres quiet abit more space plus a playtop...I'm paying 150 for it but I have to drive 2 hours to get it.

I am getting a 32 23 30 from www.loveonthewing.com model # 8003223 for a very reasonable price! I am going to pick mine up at the Stillwater MN bird fair to detour shipping fees but go on the site or do like I did and give them a call they are super sweet here is their # 952-461-1985! He also has other cages he will recommend just tell him what you want and he can tell you the price hope this helps :) You can tell him Ruth Bundick told you if you want!

Kisa, can you give us a link to the cage you are getting??? I remember that seller, but I hated the website layout....

My mitred conure, Charlie has a cage that is 23"L x 19"W x 33"H. The cage wires are so wide that it was probably designed to house an amazon... A larger cage for him would be nice, but this is what came with him... He's a rehome (like most of my birds), and I haven't bought any of my rehomed birds.... Charlie's cage is on the left...

My cherry head has a cage that is 32"L x 21"W x 36"H, total heighth being 62". It was only $100 instead of $150 as what they normally sell for... Well it was only $100 because someone else bought it, then never used it and just stored the cage, unused, in the box it came in... so I practically got it brand new! She only recently got it, and I have yet to set it up for her, as I want her to get used to the cage before I put her in it... She (and her buddy) have been cage free for a few years so its going to take some time to get at least one of them (the conure) used to living in a cage again.

Ah I see the cage now!
http://yugisoft.com/viewbirdcages.asp?ID=68

I do believe Yugisoft is a good retailor of cages although I haven't worked with them personally... just looking over the site really. I've seen both green, white, blue, and black (charcoal) colored cages... I may have seen sand colored ones too but can't recall. The white cages are pretty ordinary, the black ones are sleek and nice, and between the blues or the greens... well I kind of like the blue better.... but I couldn't tell you about the grey!

As for pics, just pressh the "Img" button above new posts.... when you are making one that is... Press it once, then put in the image url, then press the button again. If done right, the pic should show up.

Indeed, you can't post images from an e-mail account... you need to upload them to an image hosting website... there's quite a few out there, although Photobucket is one of the top ones.

Yugisoft is a good website, but it's always good to shop around! So it's good that you were able to get the cage for cheaper!

Personally, I am a little hesitant about Love On The Wing. The guy is a little shady. A store a work for was going to start ordering wholesale through him but she talked to a bunch of people who said he is a real jerk, needless to say she decided not to do business with him. He was really nice to me but I have seen him at 3 shows now in MN and each time, the cage I want is a different price. It is the same cage that MFIDS has for the Cherry-Head. The first sale I went to (to vend.) he had it for $90, I think that was because another vendor was selling a slightly used one for $70 (then lowered it to $35 ). The next sale he had it for $100, then the next sale it was $125. Next sale I hope to sell something and have enough money to make a deal with him.

I know what you mean about Love on the Wing. I have heard the same thing from many people. But he has the best stock, variety and prices locally and I prefer to see what I am buying and I also go to every Stillwater bird fair.

HEY BRIMONSTER - WE SHOULD TRY TO HOOK UP AT THE APRIL BIRD FAIR IF YOU GO. IT WOULD BE FUN TO MEET.
