Birds should have several perches in the cage of varying diameters
and textures. Dowels,tree branches from uncontaminated sources and safe tree wood,rope perches are all suitable. You could use perches of 5/8,3/4 up to an 1 & 1/4 " for a conure. It will help a lot with strengthening the grip. However if your bird does not improve or shows signs of illness a vet visit is in order. Also nails too long or cut too short can affect grip.---Yogi

Yes--I should have mentioned sand perches.
See you knew what to do and took your bird to the vet. Smart bird mommy. Trust your instincts----you know your bird best and it paid off. Those infections can esculate fast in a bird and you may have prevented a possible emergency over the holidays. Good show!!!---Yogi
