Tricks for my Blue Crown

Postby MyMax on Tue Dec 12, 2006 3:07 pm

I've taught my Blue Crown to turn around, and to bob her head up and down when I say "yes".

I want to teach her to wave as well. How long should I work with one "trick" to get it down before teaching a new one, and how many tricks can a blue crown generally learn?

Right now she will vocalize "turn around" while spinning around in a circle. It's so cute.

You seem to be doing quite well. As soon as your bird masters a trick go on to the next. There's no set number of things your bird can learn . Depends on how much your bird wants to please you and your patience.------Yogi

She now will turn around, Move her head Yes, and wave when I say hello. BUT she vocalized "Turn around" while doing all three...

"Turn around " may be the word she connects with performing. Sorry but I don't know how to 'unteach' a trick. :D  ---Yogi

Patience and distractions... Max got very violent when I left for college, and its taken me a little work to get her trustworthy again...

The biggest thing I've learned though, is to leave me alone when she tells me she's having a junky day. It took awhile for me to realize I couldn't treat her like a puppy, because she's a bird.

For example, today she is in a bad mood. I am still working with her on her tricks, but I'm letting her have her space. When she gets sick of playing with me, she can walk away. (And she does!)

Other than that, I can't be much help. LoL....
