Showers

Postby MyMax on Sat Dec 09, 2006 10:25 pm

Ok, last post before I go to bed.

Is it advisable to bring your conure into the human shower (not with you) so she can shower? And if so, how often? I know she can clean herself if given a water bowl, but would offering her a "real" shower be benificial?

I've seen purchase made for the shower, so I know a fair number of people must do it.

Thank you,
Allegra

Not a problem. I take my birds into the shower with me. You will want to get a shower perch and when you take her in, be careful not to freak her out. Get the shower running first (room temperature) and close the curtain, and don't forget to close the door behind immediately so she does not make a getaway. Don't put her under the water immediately, but get her situated and sound excited about it (talk to her) then gradually start directing the water at her. Some birds have to get used to bathing this way, but she may enjoy it right away. Jade doesn't mind showers, but Jake, is not too fond of them and has learned to tolerate them. After all, a grey has a reputation to uphold.

Some birds enjoy showers (my 'tiel loved them), and some birds prefer baths. My conure will hunch up and shut his eyes if I try to shower / mist him, but he LOVES baths!! If you shower with your bird, just be sure that he doesn't come into contact with any soap products!!
