Hi,
I think I've read that beak banging is a male thing ... I could be wrong, but there you go!

My grey does this at times and sometimes puffs up like a big old tom turkey while he's doing it. I agree, it is a guy thing.

Our 7 year old sons pet Military Macaw (male) bangs his beak on everything. When he "knocks" on wood he says "come here" and then yells "Ash" which is our sons name. Big Bird is his name and yes he is a male as well, so maybe it is just a guy thing...

My bird Max was DNA tested, and reported a female. She occasionally beak bangs. Usually she does it right after I put her in her cage b/c I've gotta leave the house.

I have two Suns, and the male (Gabriel) is the beak banger. He seems to use it as a way to communicate he does not like what I am doing with him. I put him in the cage and block him from leaving as I clean it up or move stuff about and he'll bang his beak in defiance and usually a squawk will follow.

Momma (Ana) doesn't bang her beak, she slides it along things to clean it off or slides it up the side of my neck/head as she preens my head.

LOL....

My fluffys (one of our tame pair of breeder suns)...bangs her beak on her nest box so I'll come visit her and her babies...she lets me put my head inside the nest box and love up to her and her babies even..VERY RARE for a bird with babies in the nest to let a human close by let alone love up and snuggle her and her babies in the nest box...they love to give us lots of babies....

I simply love the sun conures...noisy..?......well heck ya they are...lol..they are of the Aritinga species...so they gonna be loud..but they have so much personality....

Beak banging is just a form of communication with these HIGHLY intelligent creations...
