Would you mind saying what is the name of the "long term" antibiotic shot the vet gave your bird?

Convenia. The long-acting antibiotic from Pfizer Animal Health that lasts 10 to 14 days with a single injection. Convenia is more than just penicillin. It’s a broad-spectrum antibiotic (in the simplest terms that means it kills a lot of different kinds of bacteria), so it can be used in a wide variety of infected organ systems and clinical and hospital situations. from http://www.mypetsdoctor.com/convenia-antibiotic-injection

He had 3 shots in more than a month with variety of dosages. I think he got 0.5 units last Sunday.

So glad Sunny is healing :D AAV membership is the very last mention in the section re credential and publications. Dr Doolan presented several papers at the AAV conf in 2006, but shows having last done so in '95. Such a gap! Certainly seems he'd be well qualified with his background. I've not heard of that antibiotic. That bothers me a little, but I never dreamt I knew everything

The yogurt I give my flock is Stonyfield's plain, no-fat, w/vit D. Per Dr Susan Clubb, yogurt from cow's milk is NOT a probiotic for birds, but it does provide some calcium. I offer it ONLY to be able to use it when I need to medicate birds. Much better than restraint. I'm wondering if you're giving too much, especially with the jam mixed in.

Well, as I mentioned, he wanted eat more. The jam was to get him interested. it was Doolen's suggestion when I asked him what is the supplement to his food when antibiotics also killing the good bacteria in his system. In fact, he said I could use fruit flavored supermarket stuff. I just made a batch for Sunny with a little jam to bribe him. I do not think that I should worry about jam. I can try without jam to see what would be reaction later. He could not help himself but gobble down what we gave. I think for prevention i would stick to apple-cider vinegar treatment once in a two months as half table spoon vinegar over 4 once apple juice/water solution.

BTW, Doolen's name does not come up from the aav site that provides the names of active members. He may forgot to pay his dues or doesn't care anymore to be a member of it or not.

    Heeeeeeere is Sunny!

It's great to hear that Sunny is feeling so much better! After having experienced an AAV vet vs a regular vet that treats birds, I can't imagine having a non-certified AAV vet again! But as long as Doolen knows what he's doing and he keeps up with all the various new medications and treatments for birds, then he should be good enough!

When Charlie, my mitred conure, needed to be on antibiotics, he absolutely hated the taste of the meds. I started trying him off with some strawberry flavored yogurt, then some plain yogurt - which at first he didn't like, and wasn't all so sure about it, but in the end he decided the medicated plain yogurt was just fine! After he was all done with his meds, I offered him just regular plain yogurt, and he thought it tasted so weird! He had to think about it for a moment, try it again, and decide if he liked this "new flavor"! I tried to use as little yogurt as possible, in the hopes that he'd consume it all, so I often wouldn't use more than the very tip of a spoon with the meds mixed in, and he'd eat it off the spoon, no probs.

As for the ACV, I know many people do recommend it, but I still worry that "too much of a good thing" can be bad. I hardly use it, and if I were to, I'd use a weaker solution, unless directed by my a-vet. Regardless, I hope continued good health for Sunny!
