Nanday in Missouri

Postby saintsellr on Wed Nov 25, 2009 11:26 pm

Hey,sorry but I am unsure of where to post.I have a proven male nanday that I have been trying to rehome for months, but I have yet to find a home capable of caring for such a noisy bird.Apparently, suns and greencheeks are the popular birds in my area [St.louis].I have listed him in tons of different classifieds, listed for trade, for sale for 100 dollars!!I am reluctant to give him away for free, cause I know someone would just turn around and resell him.Besides, most people dont realise how to care for these birds,Ive asked for conure friendly homes, and everyone who replied[but didnt show] had only cockatiel exp..I would really like to move this bird, not because of the noise, but at breeding time ,he and my sun will not rest til they succeed in mating.I dunno!!Anyone own an avairy in Missouri or Illinois that would be interested in him?Its way to chilly to ship from here or I would just post in the premium area.[Delta here sucks!!]

Can you not cage the two conures side by side in separate cages???

Have you looked for bird clubs in your area? Perhaps bird stores, or avian vets? Sometimes if you put a word in with them, some of them might know of someone who may be interested in a particular bird or willing to take one on.

I have tried everything but padlocking their cages. The pic was in the summer ,outside.I have been keeping them seperate inside for quite awhile.I have contacted all listed conure breeders, listed in the paper, listed on craigslist and kijiji.I think people dont dont want to put up with the noise.Actually,I used this pic when i listed, and most who replied asked to buy the sun.I guess nandays just arent popular birds.who knows?

Suns and jendays are "prettier" birds because they are brighter and more vibrant than many other conure species. Personally, I'd rather have a nanday than a sun, but I know both can be loud! Then again, I've got a mitred, and he can be pretty noisy at times! A lot of ignorant/un-knowledgeable people who buy african greys more likely buy them for their *possible* speaking ability over their looks. Many cockatoos are bought because of how cuddly these birds are. Macaws for their vibrant colors... A lot of these people who have never owned birds before, or never owned anything larger than a cockatiel end up not knowing how to properly care for these guys and then we get all these rehomed birds... although there are other reasons for a bird to be rehomed, a big part of the reason why is because people simply didn't know what they were getting into.

If people were thinking about noise, many of them probably wouldn't have asked for the sun instead...

Sorry you haven't had any luck. Keep looking, and perhaps you'll find the right person, couple, or family!

You wouldn't believe...I have decided to trade this bird to a 'parrot farm' in Illinois for 10 societys and zebras...lol.I just couldn't take a chance in him being bounced from home to home,so I made this ridiculous deal for the well being of the bird.Maybe Karma will smile on me.Thanks for the suggestions.I'm free of all the drama this bird creates with my flock[the gouldians will be HAPPY] and he is going to a great new flock once clearing quarentine.Again, thanks
