QUESTION PEACH FRONTED CONURES

Postby Midwest Macaws on Sun Nov 01, 2009 1:33 pm

PEACH FRONTED CONURES
I WAS LOOKING AT PICTURES AT THIS SITE http://conurecommunity.com/peachfronted.htm AND NOTICED THAT SOME HAVE ORANGE FEATHERING AROUND THE EYE AND SOME DO NOT. ARE THEY DIMORPHIC OR IS ONE A HYBRED OF THE PEACH FRONTED WITH A HALF MOON?

Half moons do no have orange feathering around the eye so it's no indication of hybridization. Usually, an indication of a hybrid would be a difference in the beak color, if any at all.

The orange around the eye could either be due to age, or perhaps just an individual thing. Within conures, their colorations can vary, especially in sun conures.

I did go to the site and checked out the Peach Fronts and Half Moons, but I wasn't sure which Peach Front Conure you were talking about. I don't have a Half Moon Conure. I do have Peach Fronts though so I'll just answer what I can. It seems as though people mix up the Peach Fronts and Half Moons. I've seen Half Moons advertised as Peach Fronts, although I think the two are easy to tell apart. The Peach Fronts have black beaks, whereas the Half Moons have horn colored upper mandibles. One of my Peach Fronts does have a few orange feathers around her eye. From the pictures I looked at when I clicked on the link, it also looked like Half Moons have a larger bare patch around their eyes than the Peach Fronts. I didn't see any orange feathers, but the bare patch appeared to be almost a pale orange color? The skin around Peach Front eyes is white.

Wow! That Peach Front does have a lot of orange feathers around the eye. It looks like there might be a few orange feathers scattered around towards the back of the head also? Pretty little bird! I really like the Peach Fronts. They are one of my favorite conures.

that is my pair in the photo and he is the reason i started checking on other peach fronts yes he has lots of orange feathers through out his head. he is an import so monica probably hit it on the head when she said it could be due to age. sweet birds though i really like peachfronts i have 2 pairs and was worried because my other pair didn't have the orange like this and thought if they were dymorphic maybe the other pair was both hens. im just going to have to sex the other pair to make sure. because the pair in the photo was s/s and are proven for me.

One of my females has a few orange feathers around her eye so maybe some individual birds just have more orange feathers? It reminds me of the red factor greys though, and it makes me wonder if it isn't something similar.
