Sun Conure choaking question

Postby natesmom on Wed May 13, 2009 2:35 pm

My husband found my 15 yr old sun hanging up side down and listless the other day. He got my sun out of his cage sure he was dieing. He put water on his fingure and got some in my suns mouth. He noticed his craw was really hard and started to rub it. After some time my sun started to come back. Is it possible for him to gorge himself and not be able to breathe. This happened one time before when he was eating green beans - he doesn't get them anymore!! This time we think he was eating millet but not sure. Also he regurgiates his food like he is feeding babies. This is done more this time of year and I wondered if maybe he choaked on that. It really concerns us and I was wondering if anyone else has ever had this happen their bird. If so do you have any suggestions. Thanks

Regurgitating food is perfectly normal for a lot of birds to do, but should not be confused with puking. However, if he's having crop problems, then he should be taken to an avian vet to ensure he is healthy. There's a possibility he's allergic to something, or perhaps he's ingesting something he shouldn't be. There could be some other issue as well that's going on that none of us could tell you what it is.
